In Shenandoah to Sharpsburg: The Cigars That Freed the Slaves, 14-year-old Jed Morgan was forced to serve as a Confederate courier. He changed the Civil War and slavery. As he escaped, he met a young Union captain named George Armstrong Custer.

Now, in 1876, Custer recruits Morgan as a U.S. Army scout. Bighorn to the Big Hole trails him through Sioux and Nez Perce wars. While his brother scouts for Custer's cavalry, Jed scouts for Colonel John Gibbon's Seventh Infantry. Battles rage-and other nemeses arise. Jed's own battles build within as Nez Perce fugitives flee across Montana Territory toward freedom. 

Once bent on vengeance for his brother's brutal death, Jed must now confront his greatest enemy ...
